The Replacement Wife by Darby Kane, 4 Stars

Elisa Wright is a mom and wife, living a nice, quiet life in a nice, quiet town. She’s also convinced her brother-in-law is a murderer. Josh has one dead wife and one missing fiancée, and though he grieved for them he starts dating someone new. Elisa fears for that woman’s safety, and she desperately wants to know what happened to her friend, Josh’s missing fiancée.

Searching for clues means investigating her own family. And she doesn’t like what she finds. A laptop filled with incriminating information. Other women.

But when Elisa becomes friends with Josh’s new girlfriend and starts to question things she thinks are true, Elisa wonders if the memories of a horrible incident a year ago have finally pushed her over the edge and Josh is really innocent. With so much at stake, Elisa fights off panic attacks and a strange illness. Is it a breakdown or something more? The race is on to get to the truth before another disappearance because there’s a killer in the family…or is there?

My Review:

Elisa and Harris have a very solid marriage. He’s a vet (as in, doctor to animals), they live in a nice home and they have one child, who while a bit hyper, for the most part is a good kid. Then there’s Harris’s brother Josh. Not that there’s anything wrong with him, but he’s as unpredictable as Elisa and Harris are stable. And while his antics can sometimes be a bit crazy, Elisa has to put up with him since Harris basically raised him after the death of their parents.

Josh is a bit of a playboy. And he wants his brother and Elisa to meet his newest girlfriend, Rachel. The problem? Well, his fiancee Anna, one of Elisa’s good friends, has been missing for nine months. Elisa thinks it’s too soon for him to be dating again. And when she meets Rachel, something isn’t right. And then more women start popping up, in the present day and the past. And it’s becoming very clear that there might be something a bit more sinister in some of Josh’s past relationships.

The Replacement Wife is a fantastic read! I’ve had a hard time finding good books lately and this one hit the spot. It was definitely a page-turner and the surprises and twists were revealed at a good pace. Special thanks to Netgalley and William Morrow for an advanced e-galley in exchange for my honest review.
